Well, their cars may be crap, but they make a fine remote...

I’ve had Mitsubishi VCRs, TVs, and optical drives. They are a solid electronics manufacturer.

Mitsubishi electronics makes a ton of stuff. If you dig deep enough, most consumer products will have their symbol in there somewhere.

My Volvo had considerably more than just a fob (don’t actually know who made the fob, it was different than the contemporary mainly Volvo ones). Regardless, I always imagined that when I brought my S40 to Volvo specialist they were irritated at me for sticking them with a Dutch Mitsubishi rather than a real-Volvo.

that’s MEL (Mitsubishi Electric Co. Ltd,) a separate company from Mitsubishi Motors, though both are under the umbrella of the Mitsubishi keiretsu. MELco supplies to lots of automakers.

Mitsubishi makes lots of god things. But I fucking HATE those combination key remotes though!

They’re a leading HVAC manufacturer too

I wonder where the fob is actually made? There’s a Mitsu electronics facility in Mason, Ohio and that’s just right down the road from me.

That’s because Mitsubishi makes FUCKING EVERYTHING . They’re a cyberpunk-class conglomerate.
Cars? Mitsubishi Motors, which has nothing to do with Mitsubishi any more.
Nuclear reactors? They build ‘em. Farm equipment? Yep. TVs and VCRs? Yup. Floppy drives? Uhhuh. Computer systems? Yep. Computer software ? That too.

Not to mention robotics:

I had a Mitsubishi VCR as a kid and it was a tank. Damn thing was at least 24” by 24”. Bigger than the TV set on top of it. It must have weighed 30lbs too. How far we have come!

Probably Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, not Mitsubishi Motors. They've got a pretty big OEM auto parts division (Mitsubishi Motors is, obviously, a big customer of theirs).

my Z32 CAS is Mitsubishi as well, they do a lot of electronics

If it has a Turbo I wouldn’t be surprised if that was also made by Mitsubishi

Don’t know if it was Mitsubishi but my first gen Mazda3’s remote had incredible range.

If Mitsubishi doesn’t make it, they made it at one time in their corporate history...

yup.

That’s not even the fun stuff.

As long as the battery is healthy this remote does quite well, and that's without using my head to extend the range.

Well, the 1st Gen S40 was built in a Ford/Volvo-Mitsubishi joint venture plant in the Netherlands and shared a platform with the Mitsubishi Carisma. I think the doors and most of the glass were the same, too.

The joi nt venture predates Ford’s acquisition of Volvo, though obviously they took over that when they bought out Volvo (I got my S40 on the Ford Employee A-Plan, which was a pretty nice deal ). But yeah, the car had a Volvo engine and interior, and the front and rear bodywork was Volvo specific, but otherwise I think they shared components.

They did a good job differentiating, they looked pretty different.

Yeah, the S/V40 front end is nearly identical in appearance to the first-gen C70 (I think they share some parts) as opposed to looking at all Mit subishi- ish. The only thing really says Mitsubishi about the S40 in my mind is the dark gray plastic strip along the roof gutters (Volvo seemed to prefer body color for that on their cars, even when using unpainted trim elsewhere.)
